Description of session
Health Promotion 101 is an on-line, self-directed course designed for health promotion practitioners as well as those interested in learning more about the field of health promotion. Nine modules address the key aspects of health promotion theory and practice, including definitions and concepts, models of health, theories of behaviour, organization and community change, and health promotion values and strategies. Students will become familiar with essential health promotion concepts, and, in so doing, increase their capacity to promote healthy changes in individuals, organizations, and communities.
THCU's HP 101 audio and web conference series will support you in your studies by giving you an opportunity to discuss health promotion theories, concepts, and practice with colleagues.
Participants are expected to be familiar with the online course material prior to the session discussing it. We also encourage the use of a Reflective Learning Journal as described in the online course.
Participation in the web conference series is free of charge to people who work in health promotion in Ontario. We encourage interested applicants to register as soon as possible as enrollment will be limited to thirty people.

Note: We will not be covering "About the Course" or "Before You Begin" (linked from the menu at the top of each HP 101 page) in these sessions, but we expect that participants will have read them before we begin.
Each web conference session will have four components.
1. Infoscape
Everyone will introduce themselves and share one – brief! – media story about health promotion or a health promotion resource.
2. HP 101 Course Q&A
The web conferences will not include lectures on the HP 101 modules, but time will be set aside at each session to give participants the opportunity to ask questions about the material presented in HP 101.
3. Sharing Your Learning Experience
For the majority of our time, participants will share their insights on the course – successes and struggles – as well as their own experience promoting the health of individuals, organizations, and communities. These opportunities for sharing will be organized around the following exercises.

A. HP 101 Online
You will be spending considerable time on this site (http://www.ohprs.ca/hp101/main.htm). If you have difficulty accessing, navigating, or otherwise using the site, contact Namita Sharma by calling 416-408-2249 x242 or writing to namita@opc.on.ca.
B. Audio and Web Conference
The HP 101 audio and web conference participants will be linked by telephone and by an online application that allows remote sharing of presentations, documents and applications.
1. Check Your Compatibility with Bell's Microsoft Office Live Meeting
This web conferencing program requires no special hardware or software – just a reasonably current computer system. Our dial-in and high-speed users have both enjoyed it!
We request that you check out the compatibility of your system with the Live Meeting prior to the sessions. If you have problems, please use the Bell technical support. We will not spend any time during the sessions troubleshooting the technology.
If you cannot successfully test and log on, participation by teleconference only is fine. It would be best, however, if you were still near a computer so you can browse HP 101 itself during discussions.
2. Join the Web Conference

C. Virtual Community
We have created a Learning Community for participants to interact in outside of the web sessions. Visit the HP 101 topic and introduce yourself, ask content questions, share insights and lessons, and provide feedback about HP101.
